Sad News

As you may have heard, we are saddened to inform you that Yvonne Atteberry, Maple’s beloved librarian, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Atteberry was an amazing employee of Springfield Public Schools since 1993 where she worked in a variety of positions including librarian, family center coordinator, SMART volunteer, PTA officer, educational assistant, and served as President of the OSEA. Her passion was always with her school, students, staff, families as well as our community as a whole.

She was a well-loved and integral piece of our school community and will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts are with Yvonne’s family, and the Maple community during this difficult time. To that end, we are asking that you be thoughtful of Maple’s responsibilities to families during conferences the next two days when you think of passing along the news of her passing. As you can imagine, this is extremely impactful to their community and to endure the long days that conferences bring along with the addition of distressed families make processing the loss exponentially difficult. More importantly additional students learning of the loss without the added support is not ideal. Please be thoughtful in sharing the news outside of the SPS community as students and staff will have greater supports on Monday.

As we become aware of any memorial arrangements we will be sure to share them out as well.
