New Administrative Building location

The Springfield Public Schools district offices will soon be moving to their new space at 640 A Street in Springfield, just north of City Hall. As previously reported, the district’s Administration Building, located at 525 Mill Street, was declared “seismically unsound” in a 2015 engineer’s report. After considering a number of options, the district determined that renovating a different building was more cost-effective than either bringing the existing building up to code or building a new structure.

The move will take place during the first week of winter break – Dec. 18 through 22 – during which time the district offices will be closed to the public. District offices in the new building will be open after Christmas starting on the 26th, but with limited staff.

Is all district staff moving?

All departments located in the current building are moving – Instruction, Business Operations/Purchasing, Human Resources, Nutrition Services, Communications and the Superintendent – as well as Special Programs, which is currently housed in the EMC building next door. Springfield Education Foundation offices will be moving to A Street, as well as English Language Development offices, which are currently located in the Brattain House on G Street.

The Print Shop and Tech Services departments, also located in the EMC, will be staying in that building, which was determined to be seismically sound. County SMART offices, currently located at 525 Mill, will be moving to new space in the EMC.

Will phone numbers be the same?

Yes, all phone numbers for district offices will remain the same after the move. <See a list of contacts.>

What else is different about the new space?

To ensure the safety of staff, public access to the building will be limited to one point of entry – just like the rest of our school buildings. Commonly accessed forms – including transfers, transcript requests and free and reduced lunch applications – will be available at the entrance for the convenience of patrons.
