Springfield's 20th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

What:  A celebration recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through K-12 student entries of essays, speeches, poetry and art. The theme for this year’s event is “Let us stand up. Let us be a concerned generation.”

When/Where:  1:00-3:30 p.m., Monday, January 15. The MLK March for Justice and Equality begins at 1:00 p.m. this year at the Springfield Justice Center at 230 4th Street, followed by a celebration from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Springfield High School, 875 7th Street.

The Keynote Speakers for this event will be the speech contest winners (to be announced).

Who:  All community members and visitors are invited and encouraged to attend this free event.

The 20th annual MLK March and Celebration showcases the achievements and talents of local students.

This free family event is coordinated by Springfield Alliance for Equity and Respect (SAfER, which is a program of Community Alliance of Lane County or CALC) and co-sponsored by City of Springfield, Lane County Commissioners, Oregon Community Credit Union, SELCO, Springfield Arts Commission, Springfield Education Association, Springfield Education Foundation, Springfield Public Schools and Willamalane Park and Recreation District.

The event is wheelchair accessible; sign and Spanish interpretation and assisted-hearing devices are available.
